29 October Moscow Exchange published financial results for the third quarter of 2021. Compared to the same quarter last year:
- revenue increased by 18,2%, up to 13.36 billion rubles;
- commission income increased by 25,1%, up to 10.41 billion;
- net profit increased by 20,4%, up to 6.74 billion.
Maxim Lapin, financial director: “In the third quarter, the exchange's fee and commission income grew by 25,1%. This is the highest quarterly growth in 2021. Growth rates are well ahead of our strategic targets, despite declining volatility and last year's high base.
The share of commission income reaches a new record in 78%, exceeding the strategic level in 70%. It means, that our financial performance is largely driven by fee and commission income, than ever before, And, hence, become more predictable ".

Investment trend
Since the beginning of the year, the number of private investors on the Moscow Exchange has increased by 6.2 million, up to 15 million people. For comparison: for the full year 2020, accounts were opened by 5 million, and for 2019 - 1.9 million people.
In total, investors opened 24.6 million brokerage accounts. Leaders in the number of opened accounts: Tinkoff - 7.6 million, Sber - 5 million, VTB — 1.9 million, "Alfa-bank" - 1.4 mln, BCS — 0.8 mln.
According to the company, private investors account for a significant portion of trading volume: in the stock market 40%, bonds - 14%, derivatives — 44%, and on the currency 13%.
Igor Marich, Managing Director of Sales and Business Development: “15 million private investors is a significant number, which we were able to achieve through joint efforts with banks and brokers. Not only is the number of accounts growing, but also the activity of people on the stock exchange: transactions are concluded monthly for more than 2 million people ".
And in the third quarter, the Moscow Exchange began trading in foreign shares with settlements in foreign currency. By the end of the year, the company promises to increase the number of available foreign securities to 500 and start the morning session on the stock market - with 7 to 10 in the morning in Moscow.
