I want to speak about Microsoft Surface.
In general, those, who have been dealing with computers for a long time should see some advantage over the iPad. You can easily attach the keyboard and it acts as a cover, Have USB and hdmi output. There is also a retractable leg, allowing the pill to stick on its own. The color palette of the tablet is wide.
Screen quality is slightly inferior. Live icons Win8 is a good thing, but the interface itself is somehow inanimate. These icons are too flat, lacks volume. the icons on the iPad are more intriguing(Live).

Think, that the main problem with success is, that Microsoft was late to sign in and gave Apple a foothold in the minds and preferences of consumers, so there aren't that many applets, but many native window apps work, not everyone enjoys diversity , which Apple has.
The new generation loves to tap the screen, veterans are happy to use the standard one., there are also bluetooth keyboard for ipad and others.
The price is not more expensive than the iPad, even less.
