Microsoft's quarterly revenue grew by 22%

Software and electronics developer Microsoft publishes financial report for the first quarter of 2022. Relative to last year:

  • revenue increased by 22%, up to $45.3 billion;
  • operating profit increased by 27%, up to 20.2 billion;
  • net profit increased by 48%, up to 20.5 billion.

The company's sales turned out to be higher than analysts' expectations: 45,3 against 44 billion. Forecast for the next quarter too: 50,6 against 48.9 billion. Revenue of Microsoft grew in all segments, and the cloud business of Azure again became the main driver of growth. After the report, MSFT shares rose by 2%, to 316,3 $.

Here's how sales in operating segments have changed compared to last year.

Productivity and Business Processes - Office Suite, social network LinkedIn and business applications Dynamics — 15 billion (+22%).

Intelligent Cloud — облако Azure, GitHub service, server products SQL Server and Windows Server and others - 17 billion (+31%). Azure sales are up by 50%. The company's cloud business has been growing by 47-51% in the last six quarters.

More Personal Computing — ОС Windows, Xbox games and consoles, advertising and Surface devices — 13.3 billion (+12%). Windows sales increased by 10%. According to the company, sales could have grown more, if not for supply disruptions.

Intel reported a drop in processor sales last week, as manufacturers lack parts such as displays and Wi-Fi modules for a complete laptop assembly.

Since the beginning of the year, Microsoft shares have risen at about twice the rate of the broad market index S.&P 500: 43 against 24%.
